So Many Kids in Arlington Can’t Read

Across the whole United States, reading and math scores are trending down, and Arlington is no exception. A recent study by E. Casey Foundation has found that 65% or 3rd graders are not proficient readers. That is only 3% better from 2009.

Arlington did much better than the national average, where only 20% of 3rd graders aren’t profecient readers. However, back in 2008, that number was only 13%. So, more children are not proficient in reading since the last decade.

This is really bad, an expert says that children who are not efficient in reading and math at lower levels are much more likely to drop out of high school.
